There is further trouble in the ongoing patent war between the two mobile phone giants Apple and Samsung. A document presented as part of the fact finding between August 2011 and March 2012 states that classified information like Apple’s patent agreements with Nokia, Phillips, Ericsson and Sharp may have been passed on to Samsung’s employees, by its lawyers.
A report made by an expert handling the fact findings, about the damages which apple has to be awarded in the ongoing patent infringement by Samsung, was forwarded by the Samsung outside counsel to its executives. This forwarded report allegedly contained classified information and key terms of all the four above mentioned agreements. This was viewed by more than fifty Samsung executives, which is a gross court violation.
U.S. Magistrate Judge Paul S. Grewal showed his frustration at Samsung not being able to reply to these allegations except that they were looking into the matter.
The court decided to take matters into its own hands by deciding to supervise Samsung’s investigations into the case.
