RAM or Random Access Memory, a must-have peripheral for computers has a long history behind its invention. RAM is an integral part of computers these days but surprisingly, it was not present in the first generation computers. According to a popular belief, Intel has the credit of inventing first RAM but very few people know that RAM was developed far before foundation of Intel.
Williams Tube is known to be the first RAM used in computers then. Later in 1952, Jay Forrester invented the Core Memory which replaced Williams Tube in all computers.
Intel can still be considered as the actual founder of RAM because they developed the chip which is used in computers today. The first successful product of this company was the 3101 Shottky bipolar memory, which was introduced in 1969. Later in the same year, the company introduced the 1101, a 256-bit static RAM. Since then, RAM has gone a long way and today they are available in various forms.
