Social Media giant Facebook have collaborated with tech giant Cisco in a first of sorts, to bring free Wi-Fi availability for customers of big businesses. This includes hotels and retail chains.
The modus operandi is that these companies will tie up with hotels and retail chains and provide them with free Wi-Fi for their customers. The customers don’t need a password to login and can do so with their facebook id’s. They can check in to the hotel and get other details like facilities by not even going to the reception desk. This does not just reduce the work load but gives the customer a sense of independence.
Cisco’s chief John Chambers has said that Cisco has been testing the same with smaller business with success. Now they want to switch to bigger businesses. He told the gathering at New York that this will help the retailers to publics themselves well and deliver information and promotions in a better way.
The sad part for the businesses is that neither of the companies is going to fund the equipment and broadband, which the retailers have to arrange by themselves.
