Adobe Systems Inc. founded since Feb 1982, has become a standard medium worldwide for accepting electronic documents. The company was started by two ex-employees of Xerox PARC- John Warnock and Charles Geschke with a focus to develop and market PPDL- Postscript page description language.
The History of Adobe starts with its nomenclature, in that the Company got its name as such with Adobe Creek in Los Altos, California that ran behind the houses of the founders of the Company. It was then Marva Warnock wife of John Warnock and a graphic designer by profession who designed the corporate logo for the Company that features the stylish Alphabet“A”.
While at Xerox, the two who share the same dream to “make an impact and change the world” developed two concepts Jam and Interpress that could be treated as precursors to Adobe Postscript. But the Company refused to release the Interpress commercially. Discouraged by the company’s reluctance, but the two found it an opportunity to start out on their own and bring Interpress to market.
With no great expectations, the two met the Venture Capitalists Hambrecht who with the impressed pitch of Warnock handed over a personal check of $50,000 as the start-up cost and also hired a consultant for both of them two write up a business plan to better market their technology. With this the history of Adobe has no looking back.
Within a time period of a decade, Adobe made an enormous impact on the market of visual communications and commerce. Adobe has touched a success where every image whether in print, video or on the web is impacted by an Adobe product.
The trend that started with the history of Adobearound 35 years ago in printing and desktop publishing continues in enterprise business solutions, web applications, development, designing and beyond with the products like PDF, Photoshop, Adobe Acrobat Reader and many more all of which are today an international standard!
