The main attention of Wall Street and the tech world is definitely on Silicon Valley. The reason behind this is, Facebook poised to go public. West side of San Francisco Bay is the creator of hot companies. It also has highest proportion of tech jobs. But still Silicon Valley is far behind in enhancing technology and science related jobs in United States. To decide which metropolitian areas are offering most tech jobs, a ranking system was developed by Praxis Strategy Group. This ranking was made including data processing, software, internet publishing, growth in technology, mathematics related (STEM), science and engineering jobs in almost all sectors. The survey was conducted for almost 51 largest metropolitian areas.
Seattle Tacoma-Bellevue, Wash metro area is the first place in the list with 12% tech growth and 7.6% STEM growth. Most significantly for potential job seekers the Puget sound regions because 43% growth in tech jobs and 18% in STEM jobs. Seattle sustains the recessions compared to most of the regions. Tech oriented companies like Amazon, Microsoft and Boeing and minor housing costs than the Bay Area.
Among top five regions two of which are government dominated regions. The Washington-Arlington- Alexandria MSA positioned second with the growth of 20.6% in technology employment and 20.6% growth in STEM. Baltimore- Towson, Md., positioned 5th with 38% of growth in tech jobs and 17.2% of growth in STEM. From the past two years their tech jobs was almost steady. Diversity in the current technology can also explain the success of other tech hotspots across the country. San Diego-Carlsbad- San Marcos, Calif is in No.3 and has a drastic growth in biotechnology, physical science research. The growth of the tech employment is 30% and 13% of improvement in STEM jobs. From the past two year jobs in both field varied by 15.7% and 6.5% respectively. Boston is one of the well established tech stars, with a growth of 11.3% in tech. software publishing, biotechnology and internet publishing all these comes under diversified portfolio. STEM employment has constant from past 10 years.
